Russ 1992.06 @ Shine, Haçienda, Manchester

Another Blog51 exclusive.  A new set from a shine night in 1992 from Russ.  Regularly DJing alongside Mike Pickering and Sasha, Russ soon had a strong influence and following in and around Manchester.  He ran his own record shop and a few years later had one of the most influencial nights called 'Out In The Sticks' at a small club called the Blue Note in Todmorden just outside of Manchester.  It may have been small but that basement room had one of the sweatiest most uplifting dancefloors of all time, with Russ and Craig attracting the likes of Brian Tappert and Full Intention to join them on the decks.   When the Haçienda sadly shut it's doors in 1997 this is where we and many of the Haçienda regulars headed off to.  Russ and Craig ran an excellent night in the most unlikliest of places - the northern mill town of Todmorden.  Indeed within a month of the faç51 doors closing Graeme Park played his first set at the Bluenote.

Mike Pickering & Sasha 1991 @ Shine Haçienda Manchester

Another exclusive for BLOG51 for you to enjoy.  In light of the recent SHINE nights that have been happening across the country I thought I would share this.  This has been shared with a limited number of friends so far and the feedback is that is a cracking set.  It is the earliest SHINE tape that I have from the Haçienda.  I think the SHINE nights started back in May of 1991 when the Haçienda re-opened it's doors, although this is probably from later in the year.  You can tell the distinct styles of the two DJ's yet they both complimented each other for some proper party nights... enjoy.  

Kindly please do not sell this set. I have the only cassette copy and have taken the time to rip it and share for free.  So should you.  If you do re-post please mention BLOG51 it makes sharing worthwhile.

I was listening to this one today whilst cooking and thought as I haven't had a Mike Pickering set for a while on Blog51 That I would list this.  The track list alone is excellent, possibly July Possibly August.  Often I get asked if I preferred the Saturday night or the Friday night?  If I was totally hoest I would say the Nude nights when it was both Park and Pickering but Saturday nights were our night as I loved the vocal house that Parky played but having said this, this set is a fine example of why we did both a Friday and a Saturday in 1991 if we could.  To be more exact it would have been a Wednesday, Friday and a Saturday!  Friday's weren't as glitzy, more dress down and sweat affairs.  

This set contains a few of my favourites too, Optik's 'The Chance' needs to be in everyones' vinyl collection, a dream to blend in and out behind a vocal to build a set, Yolanda's excellent 'Living for the Night', and many of us did, cheesy I know but totally true,  Arthur Baker's Let There be Love' and the wicked 'A Roller Skating Jam Called Saturday's' by De La Soul to name a few.

Allister Whitehead 1992.08 @ Haçienda Manchester Shine

Another Friday night and another night from shine and another Haçienda exclusive never posted on the net before.

Allister Whitehead returns to BLOG51 with a set from August 1992.  Full of peak time US piano and vocal house grooves, tight mixing and thumping baselines.  You can see why Allister played regualrly at the Hacienda.  Allister used to play alongside Graeme Park at Kool Kat in Nottingham in the early days of his career.  Progressing to the Haçienda in 1992 to take over from Mike Pickering for a residency on a Friday night, Allister soon dominated many of the North's major nights with spots at Cream, Golden and even showing clubbers in the South how it was done at the Ministry of Sound.  You can see exactly why Allister was so much in demand in this set.

I believe this is a Shine set from a Friday night.  An excellent DJ pivitol in the early days of acid house being involved in the Shoom nights in London.  Pete also has strong ties to Manchester - he has done recent mixes for the Haçienda nights which i will try to dig out.
